Sheela Murthy enjoys the practice of immigration law because she is able to help others realize their American dream of living and working in this great country. After graduating with a master’s of law from Harvard Law School and gaining legal experience in New York and Baltimore, she became an entrepreneur, starting her own boutique law firm to focus exclusively on U.S. immigration law. Murthy’s passion for her work and her desire to help people has propelled the Murthy Law Firm to the top of the profession. Her firm is now comprised of more than 70 quality professionals, including attorneys, paralegals and support staff. Representing technology companies, universities, hospitals, small businesses and individuals, the Murthy Law Firm provides creative options in immigration law. Her work ethic and philosophy of helping are reflected in the law firm’s slogan: We Know Immigration Matters! Murthy has been internationally recognized for her legal skills, philanthropy and her marketing savvy.

Since beginning her practice in 1994, Murthy’s focus has been geared toward giving back. Fully utilizing her firm’s Web site (murthy.com), she provides valuable, free information through the MurthyForum, MurthyChat and the MurthyBulletin. Enquiro, an independent marketing researcher, found the Murthy Law Firm to have the world’s most visited legal Web site.

Murthy is a regular guest speaker at Harvard Law School and has addressed many national and international conferences. She also serves on various boards and plays a leadership role for organizations that focus on the empowerment of women and immigrants. Among these are The American Immigration Law Foundation, the local Girl Scouts, the United Way of Central Maryland and United Way International. Her goal is to support worthy philanthropic causes in India, where she was born, and in the United States, her adopted home. Toward this end, Murthy established the Murthy Foundation to carry on her work and vision.
